The Pandapas Pond Recreation Area is located in Montgomery County, Virginia. The area incudes an 8-acre manmade pond (Pandapas Pond), 20 miles of singletrack (Poverty Creek Trail System) and encompasses over 500 acres of the Jefferson National Forest. 

Pandapas Pond

Pandapas Pond offers an 8-acre manmade pond that provides fishing, hiking, flat-water canoeing, and picnicking opportunities. A one-mile wheelchair accessible loop trail, at an approximate elevation of 2200 feet, circles the lake and limited to pedestrian traffic only.  Pond is stocked with trout October through May. The walk includes a boardwalk that separates the pond from a wetland habitat. Day use only; no fee required. 

Poverty Creek Trail System

A 20-mile trail system that is great for mountain biking, hiking, trail running and horseback riding. Trails Traverse Brush Mountain and Gap Mountain, all varying in difficulty levels and lengths. Area around Pandapas Pond is restricted to hiking only. Day use only; no fee required.

Rowdy Dawg Race

The first Rowdy Dawg mountain bike race was run in 1988 and has improved each year. A longstanding tradition in Southwest Virginia, the Rowdy Dawg is renowned for its excellent and GRUELING race course and typically draws a large and diverse field of participants. Race is normally held in the Fall and includes different class based on skill level (i.e. Juniors, Beginners, Sport/Expert, XXC and Super D).

Boley Field:

A large, open meadow in the middle of the forest with charcoal grill, fire ring, and vault toilet. The field is located directly next to Poverty Creek and a 13-mile trail system. Max group size 50 people or 25 vehicles; $35.00 per night. Na trash receptacles or water. Reservation required through the Eastern Divide Ranger Station in Blacksburg.
