Highways:

Interstate 81 spans Montgomery County and is a major North-South truck route. There are six Interstate 81 interchanges located within Montgomery County, including Exits 109, 114, 118A,B,C, and 128.  Montgomery County is close to nearby I-81 interchanges with I-77 (30 minutes south) and I-64 (90 minutes north) and I-40 (3 hours south).

The extended network of highways and interstates accessible from I-81, makes Montgomery County within driving distance to major cities up and down the east coast of the United States.

Ports:

Virginia Trade Port - International Port of Entry and Foreign Trade Zone located at the New River Valley Airport in Dublin, Virginia, enables companies to import or export directly from the the New River Valley.
  
 Port of Virginia - Located 300 miles (289.7 km) west of Montgomery County on the confluence of the James River and the Chesapeake Bay. Handles large volumes of cargo and is the second busiest commercial port on the east coast. Terminal facilities are located in Newport News, Portsmouth and Norfolk, VA.

Blacksburg Transit -  An award winning bus service with routes in Blacksburg and Christiansburg.
  

Smart Way Bus - A commuter bus service enables residents of  Montgomery County-Blacksburg-Christiansburg to travel to nearby Roanoke, Virginia . The service begins in downtown Blacksburg at the Virginia Tech Squires Student Center and ends in downtown Roanoke at Campbell Court.

  • K-Mart  (Christiansburg) - Connects with Blacksburg Transit

 Valley Metro -  The Greater Roanoke Transit Company, locally known as Valley Metro, provides service throughout the Roanoke Valley.  Montgomery County-Blacksburg-Christiansburg residents can transfer to Valley Metro buses through the Smart Way commuter Stop at Campbell Court in downtown Roanoke.  
  
MegaBus - A commuter bus service offering three (3) trips per day to and from Washington, DC and Knoxville, TN from the Falling Branch Park and Ride Lot in Christiansburg.  The MegaBus stop in Washington, D.C. is located in the parking lot on H St. NW opposite 10th St. NW. This is about two blocks from the Metro Center metro stop on the blue, orange, and red lines, and convenient to Virginia Tech locations in Old Town Alexandria, Falls Church, and Arlington.

Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport - Offers more than 50 scheduled flights daily, providing nonstop service from nearby Roanoke, Virginia to Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, New York, Orlando, Tampa, and Washington, DC.  The major airlines that fly out of Roanoke Regional Airport daily include US Airways, United Airlines, Delta and Allegiant Air.
  
Virginia Tech-Montgomery Executive Airport - General aviation airport located in the Town of Blacksburg.  It has a runway of 4,550 feet and an instrument landing system, which includes a localizer and a non-directional beacon. Other services include hangar facilities, fuel, maintenance, and repair facilities.
  
 New River Valley (Intl.) Airport - General aviation airport located in nearby Dublin, Virginia.  It has a runway length of 6,200 feet and is currently equipped to accommodate precision instrument landing approaches. Services include hangar facilities, fuel, maintenance, and repair facilities.  An International Port of Entry and Foreign Trade Zones have also been established at the airport.   

Rail:

Commercial Rail

Norfolk Southern - Serving Montgomery County with a main line, Norfolk Southern Corporation has more than 17,000 miles of track and extends west to Kansas City, east to Norfolk and the Port of Hampton Roads, north to Chicago and Detroit, and south to New Orleans and Jacksonville. For sites that are not directly served by rail, Norfolk Southern has a common siding for spotting railcars located in the mid-county area. Containerized or piggyback facilities are not available locally, but are available in Roanoke, approximately 30 minutes away via highway.

Passenger Rail

  AMTRAK (Lynchburg, VA) - The Lynchburg AMTRAK station is within 1.5 hours of Montgomery County and offers convenient daily trips along the Crescent Corridor which spans from New York City and New Orleans.

  AMTRAK (Roanoke, VA) - The Roanoke AMTRAK station is within .5 hours of Montgomery County and offers convenient daily trips along the Crescent Corridor which spans from New York City and New Orleans.

Packaging Delivery Service

Federal Express and United Parcel Service provide convenient and efficient package delivery service. The UPS facility located at 3941 Thirlane Rd. in Roanoke fully supports “Synchronized Commerce”. The hub serves inbound and outbound volume for Southwest Virginia to include the New River Valley Region. The Roanoke hub is also a key link in the East Coast network of UPS and is capable of handling heavy volumes of Ground, Air and International shipments ranging from multiple tractor-trailer load pickups to standard package car pickups, which can be customized to meet customer needs. UPS currently successfully serves the needs of many national and international corporations with facilities in Southwest Virginia.
